We're working towards cleaner energy for London
We are tackling climate change by developing local decentralised energy solutions to London's power, heating and cooling needs.
The London ESCO has been created to develop decentralised energy systems for London, targeting low carbon sources to achieve CO2 emission reductions. Forming the main technology is Combined Heat and Power (CHP), heat-led co-generation and tri-generation (CCHP) schemes delivering community heating/cooling and power for mixed use new build and refurbished developments. Local distribution networks supply the heat, power and sometimes cooling to connected customers.
We identify opportunities and develop commercial project sites across the capital where investment in sustainable energy technology would reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, the main contributors to climate change.
We are actively seeking to invest in projects and create commercially viable Energy Service Companies (ESCO’s) serving local communities with low carbon solutions. We will design, build, finance, own, operate, replace and maintain the assets required to provide these sustainable energy solutions.
London ESCO contracts are typically for 20 to 30 years to enable such projects to be suitably financed and to deliver effective, sustainable technical solutions that meet the specifics project requirements, no matter how complex.
Background
In March 2006, the London Climate Change Agency selected EDF Energy plc as the preferred bidder to set up a joint venture energy services company (ESCO) whose remit is to develop decentralised energy schemes for London. EDF Energy, one of the largest energy companies in the UK and the owner of London Energy and London’s public electricity network, was selected as a result of a competitive negotiated procedure process from a very strong field of 9 energy and utility companies (including two oil companies and a US energy services company) who had submitted bids for being the private sector partner in the London ESCO. London ESCO Limited was subsequently incorporated in September 2006.
London ESCO Limited designs, finances, builds, owns and operates local decentralised energy systems for both new and existing development. It has been established as a private limited company with shareholdings jointly owned by the London Climate Change Agency Ltd (with a 19% shareholding) and EDF Energy (with 81% shareholding). The company tackles climate change by developing local decentralised energy solutions to London’s power, heating and cooling needs. It is identifying and developing sites across the capital where investment in sustainable energy technology would reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, which are contributing to climate change.
